Beginning with TCS's ambitious 'Top Ten by 2010' mission, the book traces how the company grew from a relatively small technology operation into a global IT and services powerhouse. Ramadorai describes the transformation he oversaw after becoming CEO in 1996 and examines the management practices that supported TCS's rapid expansion.
Beyond the corporate story, the book considers how the quality initiatives and management principles developed at TCS could be applied on a larger national framework. It therefore combines corporate history with reflections on leadership, technology, organizational culture and India's economic future.

S. Ramadorai is a prominent Indian business leader who served as CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services from 1996 to 2009, after spending thirty-nine years with the company. He later continued to serve TCS as vice-chairman and held leadership positions in several organizations and educational institutions. He was also appointed adviser to the Prime Minister on the National Skill Development Council.
Ramadorai received the Padma Bhushan in 2006 and was appointed a CBE in 2009. He has also been associated with photography and Indian classical music.
The TCS Story . . . And Beyond chronicles one of modern India's notable corporate success stories. Ramadorai explains how TCS pursued its 'Top Ten by 2010' ambition and achieved that goal ahead of schedule in 2009. The narrative focuses on the company's growth, strategic direction, people, processes and commitment to quality.
The book is particularly valuable as a leadership and business case study, showing how a technology company can scale internationally while developing a strong organizational culture. Ramadorai also extends the discussion beyond TCS, asking how similar approaches to quality and institution-building might contribute to India's wider development.
