Vaasanthi is a well-known Tamil writer, journalist and columnist. She has served as editor of the Tamil edition of India Today and has contributed to publications including The Hindu, Indian Express, Deccan Herald, The Week and Open. She has written numerous novels, short-story collections, travelogues and works on Tamil politics.

The Lone Empress presents an objective and empathetic account of Jayalalithaa’s life, from her early years and successful film career to her emergence as a dominant political figure and six-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
