The Living Legend: Ramayana Tales from Far and Near

The story follows the young Rama and Lakshmana as they enter the mysterious Dandaka forest with Sage Vishwamitra. Through danger, fear and encounters with the supernatural, Rama begins a journey of inner growth and discovers the deeper relationship between humanity and nature.

Vayu Naidu is a novelist, performance storyteller and scholar of Indian epic and oral traditions. She has researched the Ramayana and Mahabharata and has taught Indian theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). She is also a Professor of Practice at SOAS University of London.

The book begins with sixteen-year-old Rama entering the Dandaka forest with Lakshmana. Faced with darkness, danger and a shape-shifting demon, Rama experiences fear and begins to understand his responsibilities. The narrative explores his relationship with Sita, Lakshmana and nature, presenting the Ramayana as a journey of courage, responsibility, spiritual growth and inner transformation.
