Girls of India: A Mauryan Adventure

Madhura dreams of escaping her quiet palace life and seeing the world. Her opportunity arrives when she travels with her brother Kartik from Pataliputra to Ujjaini. Subhadra Sen Gupta was an acclaimed Indian writer known for historical fiction, mysteries, ghost stories, travel writing and books for children. She wrote more than twenty-five books and was a recipient of the White Raven Award at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

Set during the reign of Emperor Ashoka, the story follows Madhura, a twelve-year-old girl living in the legendary city of Pataliputra. When she joins her brother Kartik on a journey to Ujjaini, she encounters mysterious strangers, packets of gold and silver coins and a Buddhist monk at Vidisha. Determined to discover what her brother is involved in, Madhura begins investigating the mystery while experiencing the fascinating world of ancient Mauryan India.
