Nida Finds a Way

Nida is curious, energetic and eager to experience new things. But whenever she asks Abba to let her try something different, his first response is always ‘NONONO’. Abba's worries come from love and concern, but Nida knows that she needs to learn, explore and become more independent.

Instead of simply giving up, Nida begins thinking of ways to persuade her father. Her journey celebrates curiosity, confidence, communication and the courage to take small steps towards independence. The book is part of Duckbill's hOle Books, a series designed to help children transition from picture books to longer stories.

Samina Mishra is a writer, documentary filmmaker and teacher based in New Delhi. Her work focuses particularly on childhood, identity and education. She also runs The Magic Key Centre for the Arts and Childhood and has written several books for children, including Shabana and the Baby Goat and My Friends in the City.

Nida wants to try new things and learn about the world around her, but her father, Abba, is often worried about letting her do anything unfamiliar. His immediate response is always ‘NONONO’.

Nida, however, does not want fear to stop her from exploring. She thinks carefully about how she can convince Abba to give her opportunities to try new experiences. Through her efforts, she learns that finding a way forward can require patience, creativity and determination.
