The story follows Fayaz, Imran, and Shireen as their lives intersect amid the complex history and changing realities of Kashmir.

Nitasha Kaul is a multidisciplinary academic and novelist whose work explores identity, democracy, political economy, feminism, postcolonial themes, Kashmir, and Bhutan. Her first novel, Residue, was shortlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize.

Fayaz is a disillusioned bureaucrat dealing with a troubled marriage, while his nephew Imran searches for a new form of resistance. Shireen discovers how her family's history is connected to Kashmir's past. Their stories come together in a novel exploring modernity and tradition, freedom and personal relationships.
