The Other Side of Light

Set against the backdrop of India’s turbulent political and social changes, the novel follows Asha’s journey from Delhi to Switzerland and back. Photography becomes a way for her to understand her past, relationships and identity.

Mishi Saran is an Indian writer and journalist known for her literary work, travel writing and insightful observations on contemporary India.

Asha leaves home to study photography in a Swiss village, leaving behind her friends and Kabir. When she returns to Delhi, she discovers that everyone’s lives have changed. Against the backdrop of the Emergency, the 1984 riots and unrest in Assam, Asha travels through a series of personal and emotional upheavals. Through photographs and memories, she gradually confronts her past and searches for a new beginning.
