Book Summary

The Inheritance of Loss centres on a retired judge living in an isolated house near Mount Kanchenjunga with his orphaned granddaughter, Sai, and their cook. While Sai develops a relationship with her tutor, the cook dreams of his son Biju, who is struggling to build a life as an undocumented immigrant in New York. Against a backdrop of political unrest and social change, their stories reveal the emotional and human consequences of displacement, inequality and the search for belonging.
