Overveiw

Ladoo is a thirty-four-year-old middle-class divorcée living in Rishikesh. She wants a child and is determined to find a way to become a mother, even if that means challenging the social expectations surrounding marriage and motherhood.

After learning that her fertility is declining, Ladoo begins searching for a suitable sperm donor. Her search becomes both comic and complicated as she looks for someone whose kundali matches hers while wondering whether the donor can also be the right partner.

Through Ladoo's journey, Meghna Pant explores questions of female independence, single motherhood, societal judgement and the meaning of family, blending humour with contemporary social commentary.

Book Summary

Ladoo, a thirty-four-year-old divorcée from Rishikesh, dreams of becoming a mother. Rather than waiting for marriage or searching for a conventional relationship, she decides to pursue motherhood on her own terms.

When a gynaecologist warns her that her fertility is declining, Ladoo starts looking for a sperm donor. Her search leads her through a series of humorous, awkward and revealing encounters as she tries to find a suitable "baby daddy" whose kundali matches hers.

Along the way, Ladoo must reconsider what motherhood really means and whether being a single mother necessarily means being lonely. The novel also questions social attitudes towards women's bodies, relationships and supposedly scandalous choices.
