Dr Jehangir Anklesaria builds a medical career in Rangoon, but everything changes when Japanese forces bomb the city in 1941. He stays behind to help fight a cholera epidemic before the retreat forces him toward India. After an ambush leaves him with almost nothing, he struggles through the mountains of Assam while battling malaria, dysentery, leeches, and starvation. The book chronicles his extraordinary fight for survival and his determination to reach safety.
