Subimal Misra was an influential Bengali writer known for experimental and anti-establishment literature. His unconventional approach challenged established literary forms and explored difficult social realities.

Wild Animals Prohibited brings together twenty-five stories that examine violence, social decay, inequality, and political turmoil. Misra breaks conventional storytelling structures and uses cinematic techniques inspired partly by filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. V. Ramaswamy's translation makes this distinctive body of Bengali literature available to English readers.
