Yashpal (1903–1976) was a prominent Hindi writer, revolutionary and social thinker. He wrote more than fifty books, including novels, short stories, essays and memoirs.

Divya follows a high-born woman who loses her protected position after becoming pregnant and being rejected by her lover. She experiences life as a slave and later as a court dancer, gradually discovering the restrictions placed on women by society. Her journey becomes a search for dignity, freedom and self-determination.
