• The book looks at gender equality across economic opportunity, access to services, health and reproductive rights, safety, political participation and representation. It argues that deeply rooted patriarchal norms continue to limit women's power and influence, and calls for disruptive individual and collective action rather than incremental change.

• Nisha Agrawal is an economist with more than three decades of experience working on poverty, inequality and social development. She served as the first CEO of Oxfam India from 2008 to 2018 and previously worked with the World Bank for almost twenty years. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Virginia and an MA in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.

Her Right to Equality investigates why constitutional guarantees of equality have not translated into equal opportunities and outcomes for many Indian women. It considers the persistence of patriarchal social norms and examines their effects on women's decision-making power within families, workplaces, markets and political institutions.

The essays also address violence against women, economic participation, political representation, access to essential services and reproductive rights. The book ultimately argues for meaningful institutional and social transformation, emphasizing leadership and collective action to build a more just, safe and equal India.
