Pride and Prejudice & Sense and Sensibility

Pride and Prejudice follows Elizabeth Bennet and the proud Mr Darcy as misunderstandings, social expectations and personal prejudices gradually give way to understanding. Sense and Sensibility centres on sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, whose contrasting personalities shape their experiences of love, heartbreak and society.

Jane Austen (1775–1817) was an English novelist renowned for her wit, social observation and portrayals of love, marriage, class and family life. Her major novels include Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.

Pride and Prejudice: Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy initially form an unfavourable opinion of each other. As they encounter one another repeatedly, their assumptions and prejudices gradually change, leading them to reconsider their feelings.

Sense and Sensibility: After their father's death, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood face financial uncertainty and complicated romantic relationships. Elinor represents restraint and reason, while Marianne is guided more openly by emotion and passion. Their experiences teach them about love, loss and social expectations.
