Book Summary

Somnath Banerjee is a young graduate in 1970s Calcutta who repeatedly fails to secure a job. He eventually becomes a middleman in the order-supply business and begins building his own enterprise. As his ambitions grow, he is forced into increasingly unethical decisions, including exploiting an innocent woman to win an important business contract. His transformation reveals the human cost of unemployment, competition and corruption.
