Carl Muller (1935–2019) was one of Sri Lanka's most prolific and acclaimed English-language authors, journalists, and poets. Known for his unconventional life, he never attended university and served diversely in the Royal Ceylon Navy, the Ceylon Army, and as a port signalman. He earned legendary literary fame for his 'Burgher novels', particularly his masterpiece The Jam Fruit Tree, which won the prestigious Gratiaen Memorial Prize in 1993
