Calling Sehmat

The novel follows Sehmat, an ordinary college student whose life changes when she accepts her dying father's final wish. She is trained to gather intelligence and is married to the son of a senior Pakistani general, placing her at the centre of a dangerous mission.

Harinder S. Sikka is an author, former Indian Navy officer and strategic-business professional. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Indian Navy and later became associated with the Piramal Group. Calling Sehmat was adapted into the Hindi film Raazi, directed by Meghna Gulzar.

Set in 1971, the story follows Sehmat as she transforms from a young college student into a courageous Indian spy. After marrying the son of a Pakistani general, she secretly passes valuable information to Indian intelligence. Her mission becomes increasingly dangerous when she discovers information that could have serious consequences for India's naval security. The novel explores patriotism, sacrifice, loyalty, courage and the moral cost of espionage.
