Curfewed Night explores Basharat Peer's childhood and youth in Kashmir during the rise of the separatist movement, and his later return as a journalist to document the lives of people affected by conflict.
Basharat Peer is a Kashmiri journalist and writer. Born in Kashmir in 1977, he studied at Aligarh Muslim University and Columbia University and has written extensively about Kashmir, politics and South Asia.
The memoir follows Peer from his childhood in Kashmir through the turmoil that began in 1989. After leaving Kashmir for education, he eventually returned as a journalist to investigate the stories of ordinary people, militants, families and communities caught in the conflict. The book presents a deeply personal portrait of a land shaped by violence, loss, political uncertainty and the longing for peace.
