Drawing on decades of fieldwork, Gupta presents examples ranging from the Mitti Cool refrigerator to Meghalaya's famous root bridges. The book also explains the work of the Honey Bee Network and the need to connect formal research with knowledge developed by communities.
Anil K. Gupta is a CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow and the founder of the Honey Bee Network, SRISTI, GIAN and the National Innovation Foundation. He spent nearly four decades as a professor at IIM Ahmedabad and has received numerous honours for promoting grassroots innovation and indigenous knowledge.
The book began with Gupta's realization that marginalized farmers and rural innovators often possessed valuable knowledge but received little recognition or compensation for it. He subsequently helped build a movement that identifies and supports such innovators, showing how their practical ideas can contribute to solving larger social and economic problems.
