MEET AUTHOR

Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani (1879–1957) was an Islamic scholar, prominent Deobandi leader, and participant in India's freedom movement. He studied at Darul Uloom Deoband and served as president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind from 1940 to 1957. He strongly opposed the Two-Nation theory and advocated a united India.

Book Summary

Written in 1938, Composite Nationalism and Islam develops Madani's views on nationalism and Indian unity. It argues that religious and cultural differences do not prevent Indians from belonging to one nation. The book focuses particularly on the Islamic concepts of qaum and millat and uses the Qur'an and Hadith to support its argument for composite nationalism.
